Laments, as a genre of ritual folklore, hold significant ritual and emotional value, which complicates their transmission in a foreign-language context. The study examines the main challenges of adapting laments for a Korean-speaking audience, particularly the lexical-syntactic and communicative-pragmatic features of their reproduction. Preserving the cultural authenticity and emotional impact of laments in film translation requires considering not only linguistic equivalents but also the specifics of mourning discourse in Korean culture. An essential aspect is the adaptation of stylistic devices such as metaphors, repetitions, diminutive forms, and rhetorical questions that convey the depth of grief and the tragic nature of the moment. The article analyzes the translation of selected laments from the film «Dovbush» (2023) and their representation in the official Korean subtitles. The study revealed that the process of translating laments involves various translation transformations, including rearrangement, omission, paraphrasing, semantic expansion, and the adaptation of culturally marked elements. Notably, the Korean translation often alters the emotional emphasis of the original texts, softening or modifying the tragic motifs. This is influenced by both linguistic and pragmatic factors, particularly differences in the perception of mourning-related vocabulary in Ukrainian and Korean cultures. The findings highlight the necessity of carefully selecting expressive means in film translation to preserve both the semantic and emotional aspects of laments as much as possible. The study’s conclusions may be useful for translators working with folklore texts, as well as for further research in the field of audiovisual and intercultural translation.
Olha ALIMENKO Anna TOHOBYTSKA Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 3 8 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-1 TEMPORAL METAPHORS AS A TOOL FOR REPRESENTING TIME AND THEIR IMPACT ON POLITICAL ARGUMENTATION http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2414
The purpose of the paper is to investigate the role of temporal metaphors in the representation of time and their impact on political argumentation. The article seeks to reveal how metaphorical frames shape public perception, political narratives and decision-making, analyzing their function as tools for simplifying complex temporal concepts and facilitating emotional engagement in political discourse. The research methodology of this scientific investigation is an interdisciplinary approach combining cognitive linguistics and political communication theories. Using qualitative content analysis, it examines a corpus of political speeches and media texts from different cultural and historical contexts. The study identifies and classifies temporal metaphors, such as “time is a journey”, “time is a resource”, and “time is a cycle”, analyzing their rhetorical functions and meanings in political argumentation. The scientific novelty lies in a new perspective on the strategic use of temporal metaphors in political discourse, emphasizing their role in shaping political events, ideologies and political decisions. This highlights that temporal metaphors are not simply linguistic tools but also cognitive and cultural constructs that influence how people understand and evaluate political realities. Furthermore, the study extends the understanding of metaphorical framing by focusing specifically on temporal dimensions that remain understudied in existing research. The conclusion is that temporal metaphors serve a dual purpose: they contribute to the understanding of abstract concepts such as progress, crisis, and continuity while at the same time shaping and constraining political argumentation. Metaphors such as “moving forward” or “turning back the clock” evoke certain emotional and ideological associations, influencing the public’s perception of a certain type of politics. The study highlights the need for a critical awareness of these metaphors in political rhetoric, as they can both clarify and manipulate public discourse. These ideas contribute to developing a theoretical and practical understanding of metaphorical framing in political communication.
Mariana BANEVYCH Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 9 15 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-2 SPEECH ACTIVITY ANALYSIS OF NON-PHILOLOGICAL CADETS-INTERPRETERS http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2415
The article is dedicated to the analysis of the speech activity of cadets who are sent abroad as interpreters but do not have a philological background. The authors focuse on the key components of language training, such as listening, reading, writing, speaking and the use of military terminology, which are extremely important for the military. The article offers an overview of the teaching methods, the challenges cadets face and the ways to overcome them. The relevance of the article lies in the fact that modern military personnel must not only possess general language competence but also have a deep knowledge of specialized military terminology and the ability to quickly adapt to various situations. Unlike philological specialists, cadets without a philological background have limited opportunities for an in-depth study of language theories, which affects their ability to communicate effectively in real-world conditions. The authors successfully highlight this issue, demonstrating that adapting teaching methods is essential to achieving a high level of language proficiency. The article provides a detailed analysis of some key types of speech activity: listening, speaking, writing and reading. Particular attention is paid to listening, that requires cadets to quickly perceive information in conditions of high noise levels and other disruptions. According to the authors’ analisis, speaking is the most challenging activity for cadets, as it requires not only knowledge of terminology but also the ability to react swiftly to changing circumstances. Reading and writing, although less dynamic, also pose difficulties due to the complexity of military texts. The article suggests several effective teaching methods, including use of authentic materials, the simulation of real-life situations, and the application of modern technologies to facilitate the perception of complex information. The authors also emphasize the importance of using interactive teaching methods which help cadets better grasp new terminology and develop quick-response skills. The authors conclude that for effective translation training in military settings, it is necessary to adapt teaching approaches, taking into account the specific training needs of cadets without a philological background. The article provides valuable recommendations for instructors working with military personnel, particularly regarding the increased use of military terminology in everyday teaching practice and the importance of regular drills in conditions as close to real life as possible.
Maryna VOLKOVA Maiia SERHIIENKO Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 16 21 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-3 DIGITAL LINGUISTICS: HOW SOCIAL MEDIA IS CHANGING THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2416
Social networks have become an integral part of people's lives. Platforms such as Twitter, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook have created a unique space for linguistic interaction changing the way people write, speak, and perceive language. For example, TikTok is popular due to its short videos, trending challenges, and an algorithm that quickly adapts to the user's interests. Instagram attracts with visual content. Facebook remains important for learning, professional contacts, and communities of interest. Twitter makes it possible to exchange ideas and follow current events and memes quickly. Given that English is the language of international communication in business and social networks, changes in the grammar, vocabulary, and syntax of different languages through English shape the modern linguistic landscape that reflects the dynamism of digital communication. The article aims to analyze the process of the influence of social networks on the English language, particularly on vocabulary, grammar, syntax, and communicative practices, as well as to identify the main trends and possible consequences of these changes for the future of language evolution. There are several main ways to influence the English language through social networks: 1. The spread of new words through memes. 2. The popularization of new words through trends, challenges, and hashtags. 3. Changes in grammar and style. 4. Linguistic inclusivity and borrowing. The impact of social networks on the English language has great potential to shape future changes in the language standard, but whether these changes will become permanent depends on several factors: the constant growth of informal style, the rapid development of new words and expressions due to globalization, uncertainty in the introduction into the official language, selectivity in the spread of changes. Social media not only reflects linguistic changes but also accelerates them, making communication more dynamic, informal, and globalized. The changes that occur under the influence of the digital environment demonstrate the flexibility of the English language and its ability to adapt. It opens up new opportunities for linguistic research and requires further study of digital linguistics as a science that explores the relationship between technology and language.
Andriі VORNACHEV Lіubov KOLOT Viktoria NIKIFOROVA Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 22 29 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-4 QUESTIONS OF INTERNET FOLKLORE STUDIES IN MODERN COMMUNICATION http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2417
The study of internet folklore, a relatively new field of research dating back to the late 1990s, examines the unique ways folklore manifests in the digital age. Researchers have identified such main areas of focus as analyzing traditional folklore genres with new content (like online fairy tales or memes), studying the subculture of online communication, exploring folklore genres online, and focusing on folklore genres that exist solely online, like memes. A key challenge in this field is understanding how folklore is disseminated online. While some research exists, a comprehensive analysis of the development and functioning of internet folklore is still lacking. This gap is partly due in part to the rapid evolution of the digital information space, which has significantly altered the mechanisms of folklore communication. The text highlights the importance of recognizing the unique characteristics of internet folklore communication. Unlike traditional folklore, which relies on oral transmission, internet folklore utilizes a hybrid form of communication that blends oral and written elements. This hybridity is evident in the use of written text that mimics the characteristics of spoken language, such as intonation, emotions, and pace, to create a sense of live communication. The text also emphasizes the role of collectiveness in internet folklore. While the original author of a piece of internet folklore may be unknown, the text itself is shaped and refined through the collective contributions of users. This process is similar to the traditional folklore model, where the significance of the original creator is often lost over time as the text becomes a shared cultural heritage. In conclusion, the text argues that internet folklore represents a significant evolution of traditional folklore, adapted to the unique environment of the digital world. Further research is needed to fully understand the complexities of this new form of communication and its impact on contemporary culture.
Kateryna HAVRYLENKO Oksana CHUGAI Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 30 36 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-5 THE CONCEPT OF «VICTORY» THROUGH THE PRISM OF B. JOHNSON'S POLITICAL DISCOURSE IN UKRAINIAN TRANSLATION (BASED ON THE WORK «THE CHURCHILL FACTOR: HOW ONE MAN MADE HISTORY») http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2418
The article is devoted to the study of the concept of ‘victory’ through the prism of political discourse of Boris Johnson in the original and translation of his book «The Churchill Factor. How One Man Made History». The article examines the notion of ‘concept’, which is a cornerstone concept of cognitive linguistics, the author offers their own definition. The study examines the linguistic means that form the concept of ‘victory’. In particular, Johnson contrasts ‘victory’ and ‘tyranny’, which enhances the significance of Churchill's historical role. Johnson's rhetoric is distinguished by its elevated style and the use of powerful images that form a heroic narrative. The Ukrainian translation retains this effect, although there are changes in the syntactic structure due to the particularities of the Ukrainian language. In addition, there is some neutralisation at the stylistic level. The article also analyses how Johnson presents Churchill's personal and statesmanship achievements as stages on the way to his main victory in World War II. The author uses adjectives such as ‘brave’ and ‘irreplaceable’ to emphasise the strength of his character. Special attention is paid to the categorical opposition ‘victory or death’, in particular in the context of Churchill's refusal to negotiate with Nazi Germany. Thus, the conceptual core is reinforced by conceptual features that are verbalised at the lexical and grammatical levels. It is worth emphasising the increased emotionality of statements and through the use of emotionally coloured adjectives and adverbs in the English text. In general, the article proves that the concept of ‘victory’ in Johnson's political discourse is closely related to Churchill's leadership qualities and his historical heritage. The linguistic analysis shows that Johnson creates an emotionally charged narrative that elevates Churchill to the level of a national hero. The Ukrainian translation is distinguished by its reduced emotional saturation of the text, neutralisation of utterances, and lowering of the conceptual register.
Olha LYNTVAR Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 37 42 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-6 UKRAINIAN-GERMAN TRANSLATION: LEXICAL, STYLISTIC AND GRAMMATICAL FEATURES OF TRANSLATION OF A LITERARY TEXT (BASED ON THE NOVEL «BOARDING SCHOOL» BY SERHIY ZHADAN) http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2419
The article examines the lexical, stylistic and grammatical features of Serhiy Zhadan’s novel «Boarding School» and their reproduction in the German translation by Yuriy Durkot and Sabine Ster. It has been found that translators often resort to transformations due to differences in the grammatical and lexical systems of the compared languages. By transformation, we mean a change in the form of expression that reflects the meaning of a word in the context and does not affect the meaning. The writer uses a regional colourful language characterized by a large number of colloquial words, phrases, swear words, realities, etc. that reflects the authentic atmosphere of Donbas. Lexical and semantic transformations are most often associated with the techniques of specification, generalization, introduction of new lexical items, explanation of certain terms, omission, etc. Translation is often based on situational transformations, in which the situation is represented by other features (вгрузають важкими грудьми в скрижаніле полотнище/Sie versinken mit ihren schweren Schultern in der vereisten Fläche; тато припирається/der Vater schneit herein). Synonymic variants for reproducing some colloquial words have been identified (ладно/Ist doch egal/Was soll das?/Na gut/Ach Quatsch!). Colloquial short forms of names have been translated authentically, but the spelling of some of them does not correspond to Ukrainian spelling (Marina, Vera und Anna). Certain realities are not only simply transliterated, but also explained, as they do not exist in the German language system or have a different meaning (Паша/репетитор//Pascha gibt Nachhilfe; інтернат/ Internat. Erziehungsheim). Grammatical transformations involve adapting the syntax of the target language to the norms of the source language. This primarily means changing the order of words, splitting long sentences into several smaller ones, or vice versa. Despite the differences in the lexical and grammatical systems of the Ukrainian and German languages, the translators managed to convey the author’s intention to the reader through skilful transformations and appropriate word choice without compromising the aesthetic integrity of the original. In order to preserve the meaning or clarify the connotation of certain language units, the method of generalization, transformation, and logization is used.
Nataliia LYSETSKA Liudmyla PASYK Olena BONDARCHUK Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 43 52 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-7 APPELLATIONS FOR DENOTING THE COOPERS AND CARRIAGE BUILDERS IN THE GERMAN DIALECTS http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2420
The article studies the Silesian, Low Prussian, and East Pomeranian appellations for denoting the coopers and carriage builders of the 14th-17th centuries. The article substantiates the topicality of studying the German dialects that disappeared partially or completely due to the World War II, analyses the specialized literature, characterizes the history of studying the German appellations for denoting the coopers and carriage builders in the former East-German dialects, determines the level of their coverage, formulates the objective and task of the publication and outlines the perspectives of further academic research. Besides, the article provides the insight into the word-formative peculiarities of the appellations for denoting the coopers and carriage builders, the form of their fixation within the Silesian, Low Prussian, and East Pomeranian dialects. Each form is accompanied by the data concerning the time and place of the fixation. According to the research results, 18 appellations for denoting the craftsmen were established. They include: 11 appellations for denoting the coopers; b) 7 appellations for denoting the carriage builders. The formative bases of the appellations for denoting the wood-processing craftsmen were established: а) names of the handicrafts (17); b) according to the general characteristic of the items (1). Besides, there are almost equal numbers of appellations with one and two roots. Appellations with one root are formed with the suffixes: -er (6), -ner (2), -ler (1). The second word-formative bases in the appellations for denoting the coopers and carriage builders with the different roots are as follows: -macher (4), -binder (2), -schneider (2). Four synonymic rows can be identified within the established names of the metal-processing craftsmen. The defined forms of fixation of the appellations for denoting the coopers and carriage builders fixed also various historical changes in the system of consonantism and vocalism of the German language.
Taras PYTS Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 53 59 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-8 ETHICAL ASPECTS OF USING AI SYSTEMS TRANSLATION http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2421
The purpose of this study is to examine the ethical dimensions of artificial intelligence in translation, highlighting its effects on professional translators, addressing copyright concerns, and assessing the reliability of machine-translated content. Methodology. This research utilizes qualitative content analysis to examine scientific literature, legal frameworks, and practical cases connected to AI-based translation. It incorporates a comparative analysis between conventional and automated translation techniques, as well as an evaluation of legal precedents addressing copyright issues while using AI in translation process. Scientific novelty. This research highlights significant ethical risks associated with machine translation, including issues of translation accountability, copyright implications, and the evolving role of human translators. It offers, for the first time, a comprehensive examination of the potential legal consequences of machine translation as interpreted through modern legal frameworks. Conclusions. Artificial intelligence holds transformative potential in the field of translation, presenting a mix of promising opportunities alongside critical ethical concerns. On the one hand, machine translation offers the ability to considerably enhance efficiency and streamline workflows, making it a powerful tool for handling large-scale linguistic tasks. On the other hand, it introduces challenges surrounding the accuracy of the translations produced and accountability for errors or misinterpretations that may arise. Navigating this evolving landscape requires professional translators to adapt to these technological advancements, which is essential not only for maintaining high-quality outcomes but also for safeguarding their professional identity in an increasingly automated world. Moving forward, it is imperative for researchers and industry stakeholders to prioritize efforts aimed at establishing robust ethical guidelines and legal frameworks.
Karyna RAZUMNA Yuliia BARABASHUK Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 60 65 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-9 NARRATIVE STRATEGIES FOR EXPRESSING THE PROBLEMS OF BERNHARD SCHLINK'S POST-TOTALITARIAN NOVEL «THE READER» http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2422
The article examines Bernhard Schlink's novel The Reader in the context of the latest trends in contemporary literary studies, in particular, the issues of memory, trauma and moral responsibility. The aim of the article is to analyse the narrative strategies used by the author to reflect the main themes of the novel, namely the culture of memory, problematisation of historical guilt, moral responsibility and personal choice in difficult life conditions. Particular attention is paid to the interaction of individual and collective memory, historical responsibility and moral comprehension of the past. The article addresses issues that reflect such problems of the society of that time as the justification of a crime through obedience to orders, relationships between people with a large age difference, and illiteracy as a metaphor for ignorance and shame. The work reveals psychological portraits of the main characters, Michael Berg and Hanna Schmitz, which help the author to examine the issue of intergenerational dialogue in German society after the Second World War, exploring how the story of a couple in love reflects the attempt of the wartime generation to comprehend the Nazi past. Particular attention is paid to the issues of guilt, morality, shame, and redemption that run through the novel. The paper demonstrates how individual moral dilemmas reflect a broader collective experience, as well as how the novel's narrative strategies contribute to a deeper rethinking of historical events. The article identifies the following narrative strategies: “I-narrator” (the novel is written in the first person, on behalf of the protagonist), “retrospective narration” (the protagonist tells about events that happened in the past), “chronological division” (three parts of the novel corresponding to three stages of the protagonist's life), “intertextuality” (the novel contains references to literary works) and “linguistic restraint” (the language of the novel is restrained, without emotionality).
Tetiana SEMENIUK Elina MALETS Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 66 71 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-10 DEVELOPMENT OF ENGLISH-UKRAINIAN ECONOMIC LEXICOGRAPHY: ANALYSIS OF ACHIEVEMENTS, PRINCIPLES OF COMPILATION, AND PROSPECTS FOR IMPROVING TRANSLATION DICTIONARIES http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2423
The article is dedicated to a comprehensive analysis of approaches to compiling bilingual dictionaries of economic terms, their structure, content, and significance for the development of Ukrainian economic lexicography. The study focuses on theoretical and practical aspects of organizing the micro- and macrostructure of dictionaries, which provide users with effective tools for understanding and translating economic terms. The evolution of Ukrainian economic lexicography is examined through the lens of key stages, starting from the first attempts to compile terminological guides during the Soviet period to the contemporary achievements following Ukraine's independence. The author conducts a thorough analysis of research and contributions in the field of English-Ukrainian economic lexicography. Special attention is given to the works of researchers such as I. Anikeienko, who first combined thematic and alphabetical approaches to organizing a bilingual economic dictionary, and A. Shymkiv, who created a specialized Anglo-Ukrainian economic dictionary that became a tool not only for translation but also for harmonizing terminology within Ukrainian economic science. The article also examines the principles underlying the compilation of bilingual dictionaries, particularly descriptive and functional approaches, the organization of terms by thematic categories, and the necessity of cultural adaptation of terms in the context of interlingual translation. The author also discusses contemporary trends in lexicography, emphasizing the importance of the dictionary’s microstructure, particularly the clarity and non-circularity of definitions, as well as the functionality of examples that illustrate the correct use of terms. Attention is drawn to the need to improve dictionary compilation methods, particularly with respect to integrating new terms, adapting to the changing economic context, and addressing the needs of users. Special attention is paid to the prospects for further development of Ukrainian economic lexicography, specifically the need for lexicographical stratification of economic terms according to micro- and macro-spheres, taking into account the challenges of modern globalization, technological changes, and the need to update dictionaries to more accurately reflect new economic realities.
Yuriy SYLOVANYUK Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 72 79 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-11 ACTUALISATION OF THE FIGURATIVE COMPONENT OF THE EMOTIONAL CONCEPT JOY IN G. K. CHESTERTON’S WORKS http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2424
The present article constitutes an attempt to define the figurative component of the emotional concept joy in the works of G. K. Chesterton, renowned English writer. The study is based on a large corpus of diverse genre materials, including philosophical religious treatises, fiction, and journalistic writings, allowing for a detailed analysis of the concept’s figurative dimension. While the exploration of emotional concepts has been a subject of extensive research in both foreign and domestic linguistics, the study of the concept joy in Chesterton’s works is undertaken for the first time. The article examines the content of the concept joy and reveals that its stucture is shaped not only by the essence of the corresponding emotion but also by the author’s unique worldview, which is rooted in Christian traditions of joy and love. The study also refines the understanding of cognitive metaphor as an idealised cognitive model that represents the perception of a given object as an image structured through linguistic signs. The present study sets out to establish that the concept joy in Chesterton’s works is primarily verbalised by the lexeme joy and its 29 synonyms, which serve as direct nominations of the concept. Other nominative means of its linguistic representation include adjectives modifying joy, noun and verb collocations involving joy and its synonymous equivalents, as well as a range of cognitive metaphors that constitute the concept’s figurative content. The study focuses on identifying the metaphorical models through which the concept joy is objectified in Chesterton’s works, including joy – essence of being, joy – spiritual value, joy – power, joy – cause of faith, joy – foundation of faith, joy – creativity. The research also determines the place of the concept joy in the writer’s worldview. The study concludes that joy is one of the fundamental concepts in Chesterton’s perception of the world and his literary works, and furthermore, it affirms the author’s individual significance of the concept joy in defining and comprehending Chesterton’s other key concepts–christianity, faith, and god.
Olha STOVBUR Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 80 88 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-12 MIDDLE HIGH GERMAN AND MODERN SOUTH GERMAN DIALECTS: PHONETIC AND PHONOLOGICAL ASPECTS http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2425
The aim of this work is to examine the suitability of modern High German dialects for reconstructing the phoneticphonological characteristics and pronunciation conventions of the classical Middle High German language. The object of our research is the modern High German dialects and literary Middle High German. The subject of our research is the phonemic inventory of modern High German dialects from a diachronic perspective. The methods used include: study of the specialised literature on German dialectology, research into the phonetics of Middle High German using the poetic texts of Walther von der Vogelweide and the Song of the Nibelungs, analysis of the phonetics of Modern High German. The topicality of the work can be explained by the fact that the phonetic-phonological structure of Middle High German remains unresolvable, which can be demonstrated by disputes and doubts in the presentation of Middle High German pronunciation. We hypothesise that a more in-depth study in the field of dialectology may contribute to the resolution of the problem. Conclusion. The phonemic inventory of Walther von der Vogelweide's language and the Song of the Nibelungs reflects the High German phonematic features that determine the subsequent development of the phoneticphonological state in Modern High German. At the same time, the Middle High German language resists Bavarian dialectal features and continues to exhibit the phonetic-phonological characteristics of the Old High German language. The status quo is supported by the Alemannic dialect, which is more conservative than the other High German idioms. The comparison of classical Middle High German to the High German dialects confirms a genetic connection between them, in particular with the Alemannic idiom. On the one hand, however, the classical ‘poetic language’ uses the Alemannic long monophthongs <û>, <î> and <iu>, while on the other hand it maintains a connection to the East Franconian phonetic conventions established in Old High German and does not exhibit a sound shift of [k] to [kχ].
Volodymyr TYMOFIEIEV Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 89 97 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-13 DIGITAL SOLUTIONS IN TEACHING BUSINESS ENGLISH http://journals.vnu.volyn.ua/index.php/philology/article/view/2426
The article deals with the issue of digitalization of educational, educational and methodological literature while teaching English. The main task is to analyze the role of military catchphrases in professional communication, the formation of military culture and the transfer of professional experience. The article examines the catchphrases from the point of view of their functionality, semantics and stylistic features. The main factors influencing the formation of military discourse are identified, as well as their impact on professional communication and motivation of flight personnel. The results of the study showed that catchphrases are an integral part of the professional culture of Chinese military pilots. In addition, it is important to note that such expressions are characterized by vivid metaphoricity, reflecting the essence of modern Chinese-language military discourse, which is based on the traditional Chinese worldview. The article also emphasizes that catchphrases are an important tool for maintaining the morale of military pilots, contributing to strengthening interaction among them and boosting collective spirit. Often, these expressions aim not only at motivation but also at reflecting traditional Chinese cultural values such as respect for elders, discipline, readiness for self-sacrifice, and the pursuit of perfection. They are not just a means of expressing individual feelings of a pilot but also a way to support team unity, which is a crucial aspect of military service. One of the key aspects examined is how these expressions interact with the general principles of Chinese philosophy, particularly Daoism and Confucianism. They reflect a deep understanding of the balance between individual achievements and the necessity to work in a team for the common goal. The sayings of military pilots are not merely external words; they embody moral guidelines that guide pilots' actions and decisions in critical situations. These catchphrases also perform a communicative function, helping military pilots pass on their experience to younger generations. They become an important part of the military tradition, passed down through generations. During the training of young pilots, these sayings are used to show them the importance of discipline, endurance, and the ability to remain calm even in the most challenging situations. Another important feature of Chinese military pilots' catchphrases is their ability to maintain clarity and precision in expression in the context of military matters. This is particularly important in military training and real combat situations when every word matters. The conclusions of the study suggest that catchphrases used by Chinese military pilots are a crucial element of military culture, combining traditional values with modern demands for military professionalism.
Svitlana TSYMBAL Nataliia NADTOCHEI Valery VAN Copyright (c) 2025 2025-06-26 2025-06-26 22 105 112 10.32782/2410-0927-2025-22-15 REVIEW OF THE COLLECTIVE MONOGRAPH «INTERDISCIPLINARY HORIZONS OF INTERMEDIALITY: LINGUISTICS – LITERARY STUDIES – TRANSLATION STUDIES» (EDS.
