SUEZ CRISIS OF 1956 AS A FACTOR OF NATIONAL CONFRONTATION IN THE EGYPTIAN-ISRAELI CONFLICT

Abstract

The article identifies internal and external factors that influenced the creation of the Suez crisis. The efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and searching for opportunities to solve the problem, diplomatic activities of the UN Security Council, the USA, the USSR to realize this goal during the period under study are analyzed. The position of Egypt, Israel, France and Great Britain on the problem of Egyptian statehood is highlighted. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the Egyptian-Israeli confrontation. A comprehensive analysis of Egypt’s role in the Middle East conflict is made, the reasons, evolution of views of the Egyptian government on the way to resolving the Arab-Israeli confrontation are substantiated, the negotiation process between the conflicting parties is described. On the basis of a wide range of sources, the historical aspects of the collapse of the colonial system in the Middle East are investigated, the mechanism of emergence, development and aggravation of the conflict in the region is demonstrated. The main official reports of the General Assembly, resolutions of the UN Security Council, reports of the UN General Secretariat were considered and analyzed. Analysis of documents of the US Congress, Israeli state bodies, which made it possible to determine the directions and trends in the formation of political directions of party governments. The main results are stated, the agreements signed by the conflicting parties are analyzed. The conclusion of these agreements showed the fundamental possibility of finding mutually acceptable solutions to the peaceful settlement of the Arab-Israeli conflict and consolidating the role of Egypt as one of the leaders of the negotiation process.
