LANGUAGE GAME AS A TOOL OF MANIPULATION IN POLITICAL DISCOURSE

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to investigate the phenomenon of language game in political discourse as an instrument of influence on the audience. In its achieving such methods were used as functional and discursive analyses, inductive and deductive methods. The growing popularity of language game is explained by its ability to enhance the effect of statements, evoke an emotional response and facilitate the memorization of information. Language game helps politicians to convey complex ideas through stylistic devices making political texts more expressive and convincing. The analysis of the functions of the language game in political discourse has shown that it contributes to the formation of identity, legitimization of power, mobilization of the public and discrediting of opponents. Language techniques make the text multilayered, allowing politicians to achieve their goals by manipulating the meanings of words, which leaves room for different interpretations. The language game also creates a certain image of the speaker, which increases his or her credibility among the target audience. In addition, it is proved in the article that language game is an important tool for effective communication and achieving political goals. Understanding its functions helps to better analyze a contemporary political discourse and its impact on public opinion. The article examines the concept of political discourse and its importance as a means of communication between the government and citizens. Discourse is analyzed as a multilevel process that allows politicians to shape public opinion, in particular through the manipulative influence of language game. Using the examples of statements by well-known politicians, the author identifies the most common language game techniques and demonstrates how people using a particular language game technique influence statements. The article also discusses the possible consequences of using language games in political discourse and its impact on the formation of public opinion, as well as on political culture in general, thereby demonstrating its diversity and prevalence.
