Abstract

The article examines the problem of semantic doublets in the vocabulary of Ukrainian cybersecurity specialists and their role in the methodology of teaching English for the future IT specialists. In the context of globalization and the rapid growth of the number of English borrowings, there is a parallel use of terms of both English and Ukrainian origin creating such doublet pairs, as a result of which the terminological variability of the language requires a special approach to teaching in order to ensure effective understanding and use of cybersecurity vocabulary. Analysis of recent studies demonstrates that the problem of doublets is studied at a general theoretical level, but insufficiently researched in the context of the methodology of teaching foreign languages for IT specialists. The aim of the study is to determine the features of using semantic doublets in teaching English to form more accurate terminological thinking among students of a higher educational institution. The following research objectives are outlined: 1) to define the concept and linguistic features of semantic doublets; 2) to characterize the specifics of the semantic doublets functioning in the Ukrainian language of the cybersecurity sphere; 3) to identify the possibilities of using semantic doublets in teaching English for future IT specialists. The main attention in this research is paid to the definition of linguistic features of semantic doublets and the analysis of their functioning in the field of cybersecurity. It is noted that doublets can arise as a result of language interference, the influence of English terminology, or the need for accurate translation, which contributes to the formation of a specific language environment. It was found that, when teaching English, it is important to take into account the style of the text, teaching students to use one equivalent from the doublet pair depending on the context: in formal documents, Ukrainian equivalents should be used, while Anglicisms are often more appropriate in informal communication. As a result of the study, it was also emphasized that understanding semantic doublets contributes to more accurate learning of professional terminology, forming critical thinking, and improving communicative competence of future IT specialists. The prospects for further research include the development of methodological recommendations for teaching English taking into account the specifics of the terminological environment of the cybersecurity field.
