TOPOS ANALYSIS OF THE CONCEPT «FLÜCHTLINGE» IN MODERN GERMAN-SPEAKING DISCOURSE

In the paper the concept «Flüchtlinge» (“refugees”) is studied as well as its linguistic expression in the mass media of Germany. A partial statistical analysis of the German press for 2015-2017 was conducted, in particular the newspapers “Westfalen-Blatt”, “Frankfurter Allgemeine”, “Die Welt”, the magazine “Der Spiegel” etc. Based on the topos analysis of the German language mass media, the lingual argumentative samples (topoi) were defined that are characteristic for the discourse of the refugees and show migration as a social problem to the public. The implicit meanings of the text body were discovered and the dominant ways of thinking of the members of Western European public space in regard of the problem of refugees were shown. Topoi as thinking patterns, on the basis of the text fragments reveal the key meanings of the concept «Flüchtlinge». In certain geographic and temporal space there dominate one or another argumentative samples that reflect the perception of the refugee problem as a negative or positive phenomenon. This thinking process is dynamic and is subject to change depending on the development of events and the course of time.
