Abstract

The article is devoted to language phenomenon Spanglish, represented as an example of linguistic interaction, within the boundaries of which two variants of different languages coexist (American variant of English and Mexican variant of Spanish language). The author points out that the phenomenon of bilingualism is widespread wherever two ethnic groups live in close contact with one another. The author also highlights that the Spanish-English bilingualism is due to the growth of the Spanish-speaking population, which, in turn, leads to the widespread use of the Mexican version of the Spanish language, indicates an imbalance characterizing the linguistic situation. It has been revealed that the result of this mixing and interaction is the formation of the Spanglish phenomenon in the population that functions within the boundaries of bilingualism and has not yet received an unambiguous interpretation among specialists. The results obtained in the present study permit to make the conclusion that the aforementioned phenomenon is manifested through the use of integrated Anglicisms in the Spanish language: the frequency and spontaneous use of non-assimilated Anglicisms (for example, with the preservation of English phonetics) in Spanish; using syntactic grafting and shredding from English to Spanish; frequent and forward switching and mixing of speech codes, especially internal (that is, within a single sentence); deviation from the rules of the classical Spanish grammar, which occurs in the bearers of bilingualism, whose knowledge of Spanish is significantly inferior to the carriers as a result of the switching / mixing of languages; distinctive features of the Spanish as the second language (written / oral) of millions of Americans of non-Latin origin who have taught the language for personal or professional purposes.
