VERBAL MEANS THAT IMPLEMENT DISCREDITING STRATEGY IN THE ENGLISH DIPLOMA TIC DISCOURSE.

Abstract

The article is devoted the discretiting strategy, which is the lingvopragmatic characteristic of modern English diplomatic discourse, and to verbal tactics that contribute to its implementation in the discourse of US diplomats. The purpose o f the study is to establish the lingvopragmatic means of the discretiting strategy implementation in the contemporary English speaking diplomatic discourse. The 97 texts of public speeches have been analyzed devoted to the conflict in the eastern Ukraine f or the period 2013 2015, which belong to a modern English speaking diplomats, in particular to Daniel Baer, Victoria Nuland, Samantha Power and Geoffrey Pyatt. The total volume of the studied texts is more than 110 000 words. It has been found, that the mo st common tactics of realization of discrediting strategy in the English diplomatic discourse are: accusation, impersonal accusation, exposure, “universal truth”, condemnation, threat, order, offense, “mentioning in a negative light”, and the opposition, the most widely used of which are tactics “mentioning in a negative light” and accusation. These tactics are implemented in the English diplomatic discourse with the help of direct assertive speech acts.
