Abstract

Objective. The article identifies and analyzes the dominant linguistic means of expressing the communicative and pragmatic intentions of women politicians. Given the relevance of this topic and certain gaps in its study, the aim of the article is to identify and analyze the dominant linguistic means of expressing communicative and pragmatic intentions of women politicians. The object of research is women’s political discourse, the subject – the linguistic means of expressing communicative and pragmatic intention. The source base was the speeches of famous female politicians. The methodology of the research is complex, as the following methods were used: descriptive-analytical – to select linguistic and speech facts and their further distinction; contextual – to study the relationship of lexical units within the text; quantitative and comparative analysis – to study the qualitative and quantitative composition of linguistic phenomena that express the communicative and pragmatic intentions of women politicians. Scientific novelty. In the current geopolitical situation and post-information society, political discourse invariably remains the object of linguists interest. The novelty of the presented paper is to study the linguistic means of expressing communicative and pragmatic intentions in political speeches of representatives of different genders. Conclusions. The analysis of scientific research in this direction states that the use of language means to achieve such intentions depends largely on the socio-cultural and individual characteristics of the speaker. Having analysed the speeches of contemporary young and promising women politicians, we identified the main topics they raise, appealing to the audience. Thus, in most cases, the communicative intention of the analyzed speakers is aimed at solving problems related to such topics as family; equality (gender, racial, social); bullying, violence; origin. To achieve the above communicative and pragmatic intentions, politicians use such linguistic means as metaphors; antitheses; gradation; vocabulary that emphasizes the personal attitude of the speaker; vocabulary that engages the audience in the discussion and call for action.
