THE PROBLEM OF HEALTH-PROTECTING EDUCATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE ACHIEVEMENTS OF UKRAINIAN AND WORLD PEDAGOGICAL THOUGHT

Abstract

The article explores the problem of health-protecting education, which is relevant for modern pedagogical science and educational practice, the roots of which lie deep in the past; the genesis of the chosen problem is investigated through the analysis of the works of Ukrainian and foreign scholars from ancient times to the present day, and the promising experience of the European Network of Health-Promoting Schools in educational institutions of Ukraine is updated in order to promote a healthy lifestyle and foster a health culture of subjects of the educational process within the context of the objectives of the New Ukrainian School. The productive ideas of representatives of foreign pedagogical thought are analyzed, in particular: the Czech educator J. Comenius on the didactically appropriate introduction of the basics of hygiene into the educational process; the model of nature-based education of primary school children proposed by the Swiss educator J. Pestalozzi; the guidelines of the English educator J. Locke on the upbringing of a healthy lifestyle of a child; the organization of the educational process taking into account the psycho-physical development of the child, developed by the Polish educator, doctor J. Korczak. The contribution of Ukrainian teachers to the development of the problem of health-protecting education within a civilizational perspective is commented on, in particular: the educational system of forming a healthy personality in the concept of the Ukrainian teacher G. Vashchenko; the concept of V. Sukhomlynsky on the organization of a healthprotecting environment in educational institutions. Contemporary monographs and specialized studies are reviewed, in the content of which the multifaceted problem of health-protecting education in Ukrainian educational institutions in the conditions of unpredictable challenges of the changing present has found its continuation. It was emphasized that in an unstable society full of risks, educational institutions in Ukraine are in a state of heightened anxiety, to overcome which, heads of educational institutions, teachers, and group leaders are recommended to strengthen the physical, psycho-emotional, health of students, and take care of preserving their own health and the health of all participants in the educational process.
