FROM BOOKS TO 3D: THE TRANSFORMATION OF READING AND ITS PSYCHOLOGICAL DIMENSION

The rapid development of mass media and the expansion of the information space have led to a change in reading priorities in the context of perception, the development of new skills, and the acquisition of stress resistance, which is necessary in times of crisis. The article examines the process of reading from the perspective of its main functions at the present stage and its impact on the audience, the goals of reading, depending on the age and level of preparation of the reader, and the potential impact of reading on health, both physical and mental. Thus, the influence of reading on the development and maintenance of human cognitive functions, especially at the stage of age-related changes, the psychocorrectional influence in the context of bibliotherapy and its varieties, physiological manifestations during reading, that improve health, form emotional stability, ensure stress resistance and attachment to reading are investigated. Emphasis is placed on reading as a social phenomenon and the need to create and develop projects and programs to support reading as a process. It is emphasized, that in the context of shared reading groups, reading is intended to create strong social bonds to help vulnerable populations and provide psychological support. Reading has been studied as a process of psychological support, that ensures both the stability of a person’s emotional and volitional sphere and the formation of skills and abilities, designed to provide psychological comfort, as well as the ability to manage the emotional sphere in order to maintain health. It has been determined, that the prerequisite for the psychological impact of bibliotherapy on the reader is, in fact, the ability of a book or text to evoke an emotional response in the reader. Having psychological benefits, reading, regardless of the type of literature, is a tool for cognitive distraction and emotional relief. Attention is drawn to the motivation for reading and the formation of goals, that are designed to comprehensively assist and promote personal development.
