TACTICS OF INFORMATION DISTORTION AS THE MAIN PSYCHOLINGUAL MEANS OF IMPLEMENTING SUGGESTIVE STRATEGIES IN BRITISH POLITICAL DISCOURSE (BASED ON THERESA MAY’S SPEECHES)

The article describes the concept of political discourse and its strategic organization. Psycholinguistic means of implementation of suggestive strategies have been highlighted. A distinction between such concepts as manipulation and suggestion as the main constituents of political discourse has been revealed. The suggestion phenomenon and its main functions have been investigated. The basic strategies and tactics of realization of suggestive influence on mass addressee have been distinguished. Such psycholinguistic means of implementation of suggestive strategies as information retrieval tactics, information generalization tactics and information distortion tactics have been investigated. Psycholinguistic means of implementation of information generalization tactics, namely universal quantifiers, intensifiers, modal operators of possibility / necessity have been analyzed. The basic techniques of information deletion tactic namely nominalizing elements, non-specific words, passive constructions and superlative / comparative constructions have been explained. The information distortion tactics has been analyzed as the main suggestive tactic in Theresa May’s speeches. Psycholinguistic means of realization of information distortion tactic such as presupposition, “Thought reading”, built-in commands have been analyzed and systematized. The phenomenon of presuppositions the most effective way of realization of information distortion tactic in Teresa May's discourse has been investigated. The main types of presupposition namely iterative, change of state verbs, oppositions and rhetorical questions have been analyzed. The basic constructions of “Thought reading”, such as as you know, as you believe, you see, you want, all of us, etc. have been explored. The main examples of Teresa May’s usage of built-in commands in her speeches such as appealing to erudition and awareness, repetitions and objectionshave been analyzed, It has been found that prototype suggestogenes of information distortion tactic in Theresa May's speeches are presuppositions, which constitute more than 67 % of the total amount of all suggestogenes singled out and the least frequently used are built-in commands with a bit more than 15 % frequency.
