IDEOGRAPHIC STRUCTURE AND METHODOLOGY OF ENGLISH BANKING TERMINOLOGY ANALYSIS

The article deals with the problem of specialized terminology, the principles of its formation and development depending on its belonging to a particular kind of discourse. The ideographic structure is built by the example of English banking terminology (EBT). It is based on the meta-term “bank” and organizational structure of banks that includes four independent sectors: small business, individual business, private business (clients) and corporate business. The following elements have been placed to the structure of EBT: general financial terms, assets management terms, credit terms, investment terms, inter-banking activity terms, lease and banking trusts terms. To further study of nominative, functional and communicative peculiarities of terminology the research system consisted of five main stages have been developed. The first stage is preliminary study of terminology with the help of descriptive method. The second stage is singling out main term groups of discourse from the point of view of cognitive linguistics. The third stage is to figure out formation methods of terminological units of a particular discourse type (banking). The fourth stage is to build field structure of the conceptual body of discourse. The final stage is to carry out comparative analysis of genre types of discourse and terminology functioning in them.
