ARTISTIC AND STYLE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PAINTING OF ADALBERT ERDELIY IN THE YEARS 1922–1926

Abstract

The article is devoted to the German period of creativity of one of the founders of the Transcarpathian school of painting – Adalbert Erdeliy (1891–1955). The purpose of the study is to analyze the creative output of the master of the period 1922–1926, and to find out what artistic and stylistic tendencies his individual manner acquired after the experience of working and studying in Munich. The research methodology is based on art critic analysis. To conduct the research, all available literature was analyzed, which mentioned this stage of the master's life, namely: scientific and journalistic works, diaries of A. Erdeliy. The author collected all available empirical material, which consists of works that are in private collections in Ukraine and other European countries, Ukrainian museums. The novelty of the study. Under the influence of modern European art, a certain transformation took place in the master's handwriting, new approaches to the interpretation of forms, a freer play of colors and the distribution of colors in the composition appeared in it. Conclusion. The article carries out an art-critic analysis of paintings made in different genres, new features acquired by A. Erdeliy's manner under the influence of modernism are revealed. During a four-year stay abroad, the artist got acquainted with the latest art and began to synthesize naturalistic images with expressive means of expression. Of course, we are not talking about direct influence, the master's paintings have not lost their originality and originality. There is no doubt that the works of these years clearly demonstrate a new manner, which consists in a more complex color, new features appeared in the treatment of volumes, a deeper contrast of light and shade, dynamics and pasty strokes. This period represents a new important stage in the artist's work and becomes the starting point for his further creative searches in Western European art.
