MYTH AS AN ARCHETYPED TEXT OF CULTURE AND ITS PROJECTION IN UKRAINIAN CHORAL MUSIC OF THE 20TH AND EARLY 21ST CENTURIES

Abstract

The article analyzes the essence of one special phenomenon created by collective consciousness, historical idiom – myth (mithos) – as the oldest form of culture archetypization, an archetypal text that transforms archetypal meanings in the form of various sacred images and events. Choral music, which we refer to in this context, is a unique phenomenon of Ukrainian culture due to its particularly close connection with the national-mental sphere. Today, in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, the broadest sections of society should see the archetypes markers of national thinking and distinguish them from manipulatively introduced hostile narratives. Since choral creativity is particularly developed in the Ukrainian national tradition, the outline of projections on the specified artistic sphere is important for understanding the processes of development of the national myth in the 20th and early 21st centuries. The purpose of the article is to understand the essence of the myth as an archetypal text of culture and outline the projections of the specified knowledge on the field of Ukrainian choral music of the 20th – early 21st centuries. The research methodology is interconnected with the solution of the following tasks: justify the concept of the text as a «social space»; consider the concept of archetype in the context of the phenomenon of collective thinking; to explain the essence of myth and mythical thinking, as well as to project this knowledge into the sphere of culture; project the interpretation of the myth as an archetypal text into the sphere of Ukrainian choral music of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Scientific novelty. The article substantiates the understanding of the myth phenomenon as an archetypal cultural text and shows its projections in Ukrainian choral music of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Conclusion. Myth is one of the most ancient and important forms of social self-expression, in which certain plots are encoded, and which acquired the meaning of culture archetypal text. Accordingly, art is a space for transformational processes related to the life of both a separate myth and the mythological system as a whole, in which the units of thinking are the archetypes of the collective unconscious, reproduced in the specific language of this or that art. Ukrainian choral music of the 20th and early 21st centuries is an example of turning to mythological thinking at the specific linguistic and generalized conceptual levels. Instead, we see the prospects for further research on this topic in what transformations take place in the life of a myth reflected in literary, musical, visual, architectural, or other works.
