SACRED ARCHITECTURE OF UKRAINE IN THE CREATIVITY OF YURI KHYMYCH

The subject of scientific interest of the article is the creative work of the Ukrainian architect, painter, graphic artist, and teacher Yuriy Khymych. The purpose of the article is to actualize the creative heritage of Yu. Khymych, focusing on his architectural landscape, in particular on the sacred architecture of Ukraine. The methodological basis of the work is based on the synthesis of historical, chronological, iconographic, biographical, and comparative research methods, which with their tools help to comprehensively characterize the general heritage of the artist, focusing on his role as an architect who recreates the architectural pearls of Ukraine on paper, turning into a chronicler and popularizer of national architecture. The scientific novelty of the investigation lies in actualizing the role of the work of Yu. Khymych as a popularizer of Ukrainian architectural heritage, who achieved his goal through painting, to draw attention to the sacred buildings in the artist’s pictorial heritage, the depiction of which during the Soviet era required due courage and fortitude. Conclusions. The article aims not only to once again turn to the work of the artist of universal talent, Yuri Khymych, who is well known in many countries. The main thematic line of this investigation is the architectural landscape as a means of popularizing the sacred architecture of Ukraine, which during the artist’s work was behind the scenes of attention due to the ideological background of the era in which the artist began to create, which is why it required special coverage. The work of Yu. Khymych is positioned as a method of researching the imagery of architectural buildings in Ukraine, transforming them into markers of cities, a mirror of the spiritual development of the people. The role of the artist’s architectural education for the competent reflection of the imagery of architectural landscapes is emphasized, the main stylistic features of his work are characterized, in which an array of sacr ed architectural motifs is highlighted.
