PROBLEMS OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES DUE TO INTELLECTUAL DISORDERS

Abstract

The article identifies and analyzes the problems of social integration of youth with disabilities due to intellectual disabilities. It was determined that young people with intellectual disabilities are persons who have partially or completely lost the ability to perform specific functions in comparison with healthy people as a result of injury, disease, birth defects, which caused qualitative and quantitative deviations in the development of their mental abilities. In the course of our research, in-depth interviews were conducted with young people who have disabilities due to intellectual disabilities. The list of topics explored in the interview includes: determining the level of independence of the participants in everyday life; level of interest and social interaction; the main problems that respondents will face during the integration process. The questions of this interview were conditionally combined into several blocks: 1) characteristics of young people with disabilities due to intellectual disorders; 2) the impact of disability on their independence; 3) level of involvement in social life. An in-depth interview was conducted with 15 young people with intellectual disabilities who attend day care centers in the city of Kyiv. Summarizing the obtained results, regarding the problems of social integration of young people with disabilities due to intellectual disorders, conclusions were drawn that many young people have low motivation and level of socialization, have difficulty making contact, have a limited circle of communication, in most cases it is a guardian , or elderly parents. The situation during the full-scale invasion of our country worsened significantly, because many families were forced to change their places of residence, and thus the previously limited circle of communication of the participants was significantly narrowed. Thanks to the obtained results, the main typical problems that arise in the process of social integration of young people with disabilities due to intellectual disabilities were singled out, namely: advanced age of parents, information gap, loneliness and stereotypical thinking of society.
