ART THERAPY IN THE PREVENTION OF SOCIAL EXCLUSION OF ELDERLY PEOPLE IN WAR CONDITIONS

Abstract

The article offers the analysis of the problem of elderly people’s social isolation as one of the key problems of modern society. The purpose of this study was to determine the features of preventing social isolation of the elderly by art therapy.The goal is achieved by analyzing and summarizing scientific achievements in the field of sociology, psychology, social work on the issue of social isolation of the elderly, the causes, consequences and factors that cause and exacerbate social isolation and alienation of the modern generation of elderly people in the conditions of war in Ukraine. Two areas of preventive work from social isolation are identified: 1) developing/forming new social relationships (circle of friends);2) renewal of elderly people activity, which are taken into consideration in the development of a preventive programme of art therapy classes. The role of art therapy in preventing the social isolation of elderly people is substantiated, as well as the necessity of using various artistic means and materials in art therapy work with them. These contribute to the development of creative potential and the awareness of their own capabilities. The socio-psychological characteristics of elderly people, which are considered during art therapy sessions, are described. The tasks in social work with elderly people through art therapy are identified: 1) strengthening motivation for life activity and interaction with others;2) breaking social isolation by restoring or building new social connections; 3) strengthening effective social connections that provide interaction and support for elderly people; 4) dentifying areas of activity where elderly people can be active;5) encouraging the development of future plans; 6) inspiring clients.Attention is focused on art therapy diagnostic and corrective techniques for preventing the social isolation of elderly people. Practical recommendation is offered on developing programs to prevent social isolation of the elderly using art therapy.
