INTERNALLY DISPLACED ELDERLY PEOPLE: EXAMPLES OF ORGANIZATIONAL SUPPORT

Abstract

The article is dedicated to analyzing of organizational support for internally displaced elderly people in Ukraine, highlighting examples of assistance provided by governmental, charitable, and community organizations. Given the challenging conditions caused by war and crises, elderly individuals represent one of the most vulnerable social groups requiring comprehensive support. The article addresses the primary difficulties they face, including physical limitations, deteriorating health, psychological trauma, isolation, and financial problems.The activities of organizations such as Caritas Ukraine, the Ukrainian Red Cross, and charitable initiatives like «Starenki» and «Starist na Radist» are described. Special attention is paid to their programs aimed at providing medical assistance, organizing leisure activities, and delivering social and domestic services. Legislative initiatives, including the Law of Ukraine «About Social Services» and regulations on residential homes, which govern the provision of aid to elderly individuals, are also analyzed. The scientific novelty of the material lies in presenting the current experience of supporting elderly individuals under conditions of internal displacement and proposing the adaptation of such approaches in the operations of geriatric institutions and territorial communities. Suggestions include organizing mobile medical teams, implementing engaging leisure programs, and providing food packages and hygiene products for elderly individuals in territorial communities and geriatric institutions. Integrating these measures into the activities of state and community institutions will contribute to improving the quality of life, social activity, and psychological well-being of the elderly.The prospects for further research include analyzing the effectiveness of existing support programs, adapting international practices to Ukrainian conditions, and developing new approaches to facilitate access to social and medical services.
