ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND MODERN DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES IN SOCIAL WORK: BENEFITS AND RISKS

The article examines the potential and challenges of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and modern digital technologies into social work, focusing on adapting social services to contemporary needs, enhancing client support efficiency, and minimising risks related to personal data protection. The author analyses scientific research, international experiences, and legislative initiatives, including Ukraine's AI Development Concept, highlighting the need to align social services with current challenges. Key areas of AI and digital technology application identified include: predicting social issues (such as domestic violence and homelessness), automating administrative processes, utilising chatbots for consultations, monitoring psycho-emotional states, and supporting vulnerable groups (e.g., systems for tuberculosis treatment in Ukraine). International case studies from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia demonstrate AI's potential to optimise social services, while also underscoring concerns about algorithm transparency, racial and gender biases, unequal treatment of different groups, and personal data protection. An important aspect discussed is the ethical challenges, including confidentiality, algorithmic bias, the necessity of informed consent, and the balance between technological advancement and social justice. The author emphasises that AI does not replace the human element but serves as a tool to enhance efficiency, necessitating professional training and legislative regulation. Risks for Ukraine include low digital literacy, limited funding, and the need to adapt ethical standards. Successful AI integration into social work requires collaboration among the state, international partners, and civil society, as well as further research on combining technology with the ethical and legal principles of social work.
