SPORTS VOLUNTEERING AS A SOCIAL AND CULTURAL PHENOMENON OF MODERNITY

Abstract

The article discusses the emergence of sports volunteering as a socio-cultural phenomenon of the modernity, in particular, in the volunteer movement, the direction of sports volunteering is highlighted, which contributes to the construction and development of active interaction with other countries and international organizations for further cooperation, in particular in the field of physical culture and sports. Volunteering is an effective means of socializing people participating in it, an opportunity to gain valuable experience. Sports volunteering as a social phenomenon has been the subject of research by a number of authors. Scientific researches of domestic scientists highlight the aspects of the organization and development of sports volunteering, however, issues related to the historical prerequisites for the emergence of volunteering in our country, in particular in the field of Olympic sports, have not been sufficiently studied. In Ukraine, in 2001, a number of activities were developed to promote the development of the volunteer movement, in particular, this year was intended to increase recognition, promote and popularize volunteer activities and create a network for the dissemination and exchange of information. Areas of activity for volunteers were identified; the number of people willing to work as volunteers has been increased; increased sponsorship and support for volunteer programs. Sport, being one of the most popular spheres of activity, is difficult to imagine today without the active participation of volunteers, namely the holding of large-scale sports events such as the Olympic, Paralympic Games and other international competitions. The activity of volunteers at sports competitions helps to solve a number of organizational issues, as well as to create an appropriate atmosphere and image at a sports event, necessary for the mood of the participants and the feeling of a spectator’s holiday. Despite the fact that the experience of attracting sports volunteers dates back to the first Olympic Games in 1896, the modern model of sports volunteering, characterized by the acquisition of its own social norms, principles and procedures began to consist of the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, the first volunteer organization committee. Developing largescale scenarios for the future Universiades and the Olympic Games, the organizers began to rely on the participation of volunteers in their conduct. The sports volunteer movement is a social trend expressed in the interaction of individual sports volunteers and their associations, which constitutes the system of the competition. Despite the rapid development in Ukraine, the sports volunteer movement has a number of significant problems, therefore, for a more productive development of sports volunteer activities, it is necessary for the state to create conditions for the realization of the rights of citizens to voluntary and direct participation in solving socially significant problems of society.
