The article examines modern approaches to social counselling and identifies the role of supervision in improving the effectiveness of social workers’ professional activities when working with different categories of clients. The relevance of the study is determined by the growing need for professional social assistance under contemporary societal challenges, including socio-economic changes, wartime events, migration processes, increased psychological stress, and the social vulnerability of the population. Under these conditions, improving the methods of social counselling and implementing modern professional approaches to working with different categories of clients become especially important. These categories include internally displaced persons, families in difficult life circumstances, people with disabilities, veterans, youth, elderly people, and other socially vulnerable groups. The article analyzes recent scientific studies devoted to the issues of social counselling, the development of supervision, and the use of innovative approaches in social work. It is established that modern scientific literature pays considerable attention to the integration of trauma-informed, digital, short-term, and community-oriented counselling methods. Special attention is given to supervision as an important mechanism of professional support for social workers, which contributes to improving the quality of social services, developing professional competencies, fostering reflective thinking, and preventing professional burnout. The paper reveals the theoretical foundations of social counselling and analyzes the scientific approaches of foreign and Ukrainian researchers to the problem of providing professional assistance to clients in difficult life situations. The main methods of social counselling are characterized, including individual counselling, group counselling, family counselling, crisis counselling, online counselling, and community counselling. The importance of supervision as a tool for professional support of social workers in working with different categories of clients is substantiated. The combination of modern methods of social counselling with supervisory support contributes to increasing the effectiveness of social work, developing the professional competencies of social work specialists, and improving the quality of social services
