RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD PHENOMENON AS AN OBJECT OF SOCIAL WORK

Abstract

The article defines the importance of parenthood in the development of a child. The work of researchers studying the problems of socio-pedagogical and psychological work with families, the formation of conscious parenthood and motherhood, and parental competence is summarized; it is noted that foreign researchers deal with the problem of reproductive work, the distribution of parental responsibilities and the combination of professional employment and motherhood; parenthood in the context of marital and family relationships; state policy regarding motherhood and fatherhood. Various definitions of the concept of «responsible parenthood», «parenthood», «conscious parenthood» in legislative documents and works of researchers on the issues were analyzed; features of responsible parenting are disclosed; the main principles of the responsible state are defined. The purpose of the article is to analyze the phenomenon of responsible parenthood as an object of social work. The research methods used are analysis, comparison, and generalization of scientific sources on the investigated problem. According to Art. 51 of the Constitution of Ukraine, «family, childhood, motherhood and parenthood are protected by the state», in Article 50 «Right to parentage» of the Family Code of Ukraine it is stated that «a man has the right to parentage». So, a happy childhood, motherhood, and parenthood are the basis of a successful, prosperous, healthy family. Parenthood is mostly understood by researchers as a personal education – raising children and a complex of feelings. It was determined that responsible parenthood is the socio-legal status of a man registered as the father of a child not only from birth, but throughout the entire period of the child’s development; the responsibility of the father for his reproductive and parental behavior, for the life and upbringing of the child in compliance with the current legal acts.
