THE CREATIVITY OF UKRAINIAN COMPOSERS IN THE OBJECTIVE OF MUSICOLOGICAL STUDIES OF THE SPOUSES OSYP ZALESKY AND HALYNA LAHODYNSKA-ZALESKA ON THE PAGES OF THE MAGAZINE “OVYD”

The purpose of the work is the representation and analysis of the musicological heritage of the outstanding Ukrainian pianist Halyna Lahodynska-Zaleska, who in the last years of her life became interested in musicology and focused her creative view on the activities of Ukrainian emigrant composers. Also, the article aims to emphasize the significant role of Osyp Zalesky in the formation of H. Lahodynska-Zaleska as a musicologist. The methodology of the research combines systemic and structural approaches, the musical-analytical method in the analysis of the musicological heritage of the artist and the synthesis of her structural elements, which gives the opportunity thoroughly to reproduce the journalistic achievements of Halyna Lahodynska-Zaleska. Delineation of the main directions of musicological activity of H. Lahodynska-Zaleska, which acquires progressive development in the middle of the 20th century and determines scientific novelty. Conclusions. Due to the creative marital tandem with Osyp Zaleskyi – a composer, a musicologist, a teacher, a public activist, a conductor Halyna Lahodynska – a famous pianist, a teacher, the artist revealed herself as the author of fundamental scientific articles, reviews and creative portraits in diaspora periodicals, in particular in the magazine "Ovyd". The art quarterly "Ovyd" united Ukrainian cultural activists in joint work. O. Zalesky has published some scientific articles and biographies of Ukrainian artists in this magazine and H. Lahodynska-Zaleska has written in the permanent column "Ukrainian Composers Abroad". Among the publications there are creative portraits dedicated to Ukrainian composers of the diaspora, in particular, Mykola Fomenko, Zinovy Lyska, Vasyl Bezkorovaynyi, Andrii Hnatyshyn, Vasyl Vytvytskyi, Ihor Sonevytskyi. Halyna Lahodynska-Zaleska highlighted little-known pages from the artists’ lives, disclosed the multi-vector nature of their musical activity, analyzed the composer's heritage and stylistic features of the artists' writing. The author glorified Ukrainian composers who, in the difficult conditions of emigration, managed to fill Ukraine’s musical treasury with new compositions, scientific and musicological works. Due to the literary and artistic magazine "Ovyd", she popularized the creativity of Ukrainian composers in the diaspora’s centers.
