Abstract

In the proposed article, the concept of "symphojazz" is revealed, which is considered in the plane of synthesis of jazz and academic music, as well as a type of musical performance activity of orchestral or ensemble performance, with the use of multi-textured instruments inherent in a symphonic instrumental composition and a jazz collective. Therefore, the peculiarities of the use of different types of instruments in the orchestra of P. Whiteman, who introduced the concept of "symphojazz" into musical practice and carried out important experiments with his orchestra in terms of combining elements of classical samples with jazz idioms. This is clearly shown on the example of J. Gershwin's work "Rhapsody in the Blues Style" performed by P. Whiteman's orchestra. The main stylistic trends are revealed: progressive, cooljazz, the third current, in which experiments were carried out in the field of jazz synthesis and European compositional techniques; the role of composition, arrangement, form and harmony grew; the complication of tonal-modulation logic, the use of elements of polytonality and atonality, the tendency to converge with European academic music. All these means of expression were widely introduced in orchestral and ensemble forms with various instrumental groups, which had a multi-textured timbre coloring. It is noted that an important place in the development and creation of artistic samples of musical works belonged to classical composers (L. Bernstein, D. Milot, M. Ravel, I. Stravinsky, D. Shostakovich, P. Hindemith, and others). The publication to analyze and reveal the concept of "symphonic jazz", as a manifestation of musical culture from the perspective of Viconavian and composer characteristics, to identify the main trends in the interpenetration of academic jazz music in current styles and genres. Scientific novelty. The concept of "symphonic jazz" is identified in the musical-Viconian activity and the important components of symphonic and jazz music are considered, as an important warehouse mystique. As a summary, this article can be an important piece of information for scholars who explore the problems of synthesis of academic and jazz music and useful for composers who deal with the historical aspects of contemporary music.
