Abstract

Mūza Rubackytė is a famous Lithuanian-French pianist, pedagogue and cultural figure, winner of the Grand Prix of the F. Liszt – B. Bartok International Competition, a piano class professor in Vilnius and Paris, who conducts active international performing and teaching activities. The interpretation of F. Liszt’s piano transcriptions by Mūza Rubackytė is not covered in modern musicology, which is why the proposed article is relevant. The main objective(s) of the study is to identify, trace and summarize the main performing and pedagogical advice of Mūza Rubackytė as an authoritative pianist and teacher, and especially in the field of interpretation of F. Liszt’s works, in particular, his transcriptions of F. Schubert’s songs on the example of the works “You are my peace” and “Young Nun”. Methodology. Methods of intonation analysis, composition and interpretive analysis, methods of observation, comparison and generalization was used in this paper. Scientific novelty of the study is determined by its completely new, although at the same time, very relevant problem (the research of the specified problem has never been carried out, although it has the great importance for piano performance). Conclusions. The unique performing and pedagogical experience of Mūza Rubackytė in the field of transcriptions of F. Shubert – F. Liszt boils down to the following basic recommendations. To understand and realize the inseparability of the transcription and its original primary source; to take into account the general cultural and historical context of F. Liszt’s work; to correlate the specifics of one’s own performance experience with the performance and interpretation manner of F. Liszt; to understand the features of the genre of piano transcription; to study the poetic original source of F. Schubert’s song; to pay a special attention to the performance of the melody; to take care of one’s own technical and performance comfort as a pianist; to think about the interpretation of Liszt’s transcriptions as a kind of artistic translation.
