SYMBOLS AND ORNAMENTS IN THE SACRED CARVING OF TRANSCARPATHIA OF THE 19TH CENTURY

Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of symbolism and ornamental motifs in the sacral carving of Transcarpathia of the 19th century. The article considers the theoretical and methodological principles of the analysis of sacral symbolism and ornamentation, their cultural significance and aesthetic value. Special attention is paid to regional features of carving, techniques of execution, as well as the historical and cultural context of the development of sacred art. The research material is based on the analysis of stylistic and technical techniques characteristic of different regions of Transcarpathia, as well as on the comparison of traditional and innovative approaches in artistic practice. Methodology and methods. The following research methods were used in the work: Theoretical methods: analysis of historical sources and culturological works to determine the symbolic meaning of ornaments; synthesis of the obtained data to create a holistic idea of the techniques and styles of sacred carving; construction of hypotheses regarding the evolution of symbolism in sacred art. Research objectives. To study symbolism in the sacred art of Transcarpathia, its content and meaning. To characterize ornamental motifs in 19th-century sacred carving. Conclusion. The article highlights the cultural, aesthetic, and historical significance of sacred carving in 19th-century Zakarpattia, emphasizing the uniqueness of its regional ornamentation and symbolism. The analysis of methods, techniques, and stylistic approaches provides a deeper understanding of the connection between sacred art traditions and the historical and cultural processes of the region. The findings confirm the importance of preserving this cultural heritage for contemporary society and exploring opportunities for its adaptation and reinterpretation within modern artistic practices.
