COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE OF FUTURE PSYCHOLOGISTS AS A COMPONENT OF SOCIAL INTELLIGENCE

Abstract

The article is dedicated to the important issue of developing the communicative competence of future practical psychologists as a component of social intelligence and its key characteristics. The relevance of researching communicative competence in modern psychological science is acknowledged. This relevance is substantiated by its significant features, such as fostering the creation of effective social and professional relationships, achieving defined goals in various spheres of life, and ensuring mutual understanding in communication –particularly throughout the process of professional formation and the practical psychologist’s execution of professional tasks. The multifaceted nature of communicative competence and its importance in diverse life situations – from building personal relationships to achieving professional goals – is emphasized. Such a comprehensive approach allows viewing communication not only in terms of information exchange but also with regard to sociocultural specifics and emotional factors, thereby significantly enhancing the effectiveness of interaction. The main theoretical and empirical achievements of foreign and Ukrainian scholars within the stated topic have been analyzed. The primary approaches in social psychology to interpreting this concept are outlined. The role of communicative competence in the development of social intelligence is highlighted; social intelligence is considered as a socio-psychological category, and its scientific basis is provided. It is underscored that foreign researchers typically regard communicative competence as one of the key indicators of social, practical, and emotional intelligence, linking it to sociocultural adaptation. On the other hand, the principal research perspectives of Ukrainian scholars on higher education students are distinguished. They largely associate social intelligence with a complex of personal competencies, including social and communicative competencies, social identity, and successful career preparation, among others.
