Abstract

The article deals with the psychophysiological aspects of the impact of counselling and psychotherapeutic activities on changing the behaviour and thinking of clients. The mechanisms of neuropsychological and cognitive changes that occur in the process of counselling are analysed, in particular the role of emotional regulation, neuroplasticity and psychophysiological reactions to communication with a counsellor. The purpose of the article is to identify the main factors that contribute to the effective impact of counselling interaction on the correction of behavioural patterns and the transformation of clients’ thinking. To analyse theoretical approaches to the modern understanding of brain functioning. The importance of nonverbal signals, tone of voice and communication style in creating a therapeutic alliance is explored. Practical recommendations for improving the effectiveness of counselling and psychotherapy activities, taking into account the psychophysiological characteristics of clients, are presented. The role of emotional regulation and its impact on changes in behavioural patterns, as well as the importance of psychophysiological reactions of the body (heart rate variability, cortisol levels, activation of certain brain structures) in the process of counselling are investigated. It is determined how non-verbal communication, tone of voice, speech speed and style of counselling influence the formation of trust between the counsellor and the client, as well as the effectiveness of awareness and learning of new behavioural strategies. The article also analyses cognitive distortions that can interfere with clients’ decision-making and change of mindset. The methods and techniques that help to correct ineffective attitudes and beliefs and promote the formation of adaptive behavioural patterns are outlined.
