Abstract

The article is devoted to analysing problems and identifying areas for improvement in social and psychological adaptation programmes for severely wounded combatants in Ukraine in the context of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. It examines the complexity of the adaptation process, which encompasses external social influences and profound intrapersonal transformations associated with post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, social isolation, and loss of functional abilities. The article emphasises the importance of key factors for effective adaptation, including psychological well-being, the development of coping strategies, resilience, and post-traumatic growth, which require an individualised and comprehensive approach to supporting combatants. A SWOT analysis of existing state, international and public programmes in Ukraine was conducted, which revealed fragmentation, a lack of human resources, the absence of uniform standards and long-term support, and the predominance of crisis forms of support over systemic reintegration mechanisms. It is proposed to develop a national adaptation model that provides for a multidisciplinary approach including diagnosis, individual planning, psychotherapeutic assistance, social and domestic support, reintegration, and post-adaptation monitoring. Considerable attention is paid to the implementation of case management and professional training of specialists working with severely wounded veterans, the development of interagency cooperation and the integration of innovative technologies to improve the quality of support. It is emphasised that a comprehensive, systematic and standardised approach to social and psychological adaptation will contribute to the restoration of the psychological health and social integration of combatants, their personal development, improvement of quality of life and restoration of dignity. Prospects for further scientific research are related to the analysis of the effectiveness of interaction between state and public institutions in the implementation of adaptation programmes.
