THE NYZHANKIVSKYIS FAMILY IN PRESS MATERIALS BY PUBLIC AND EDUCATIONAL FIGURES OF THE UKRAINIAN DIASPORA

Abstract

The purpose of the paper is to examine the content of press materials by the leading public figures of the Ukrainian diaspora of the 20th century on the sociocultural contribution of the Nyzhankivskyis family, in particular Rev. O. Nyzhankivskyi and N. Nyzhankivskyi, which is featured in the selection titled “Stryishchyna” and in the Kvituchi Berehy magazine. The following methods are used in the research: descriptive method – to represent the themes and content of press materials by M. Kravtsiv-Barabash, O. Bobykevych, A. Kihichak, Z. Nyzhankivskyi, V. Darmokhval, which present the aspects of life and creative achievements of the famous luminaries of the national art; biographical method – to analyze the little-known facts of life of the founders of Ukrainian music, as well as to trace the dynamics of social, cultural, and educational activities of Rev. O. Nyzhankivskyi and N. Nyzhankivskyi; content analysis method – for an objective interpretation of the information content of works by the authors of the Ukrainian diaspora from the standpoint of individual interpretation of the activities of figures of the Nyzhankivskyis family; systematization method – to summarize the results of the research and draw conclusions. The academic novelty of this paper lies in the fact that for the first time, the fact-based content of works by representatives of the Nyzhankivskyis family, their contemporaries, and famous cultural and educational figures of the Ukrainian diaspora is described. Against the backdrop of the development of the sociocultural environment of Eastern Galicia, they represent an invaluable contribution of Rev. O. Nyzhankivskyi and N. Nyzhankivskyi to the establishment of Ukrainian statehood and national art. In general, the analyzed publications of different types prove the significance and diversity of the Nyzhankivskyi composers. The valuable fact-based material of the journalistic materials by M. Kravtsiv-Barabash, O. Bobykevych, A. Kihichak, Z. Nyzhankivskyi, and V. Darmokhval allows us to introduce fresh information about these creators of the cultural and artistic scene of Eastern Galicia into scholarly discourse, as well as to outline the worldview attitudes of the artists in the context of the period of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
