CURRENT STATE OF ECONOMIC VIOLENCE AGAINST CHILDREN IN THE FAMILY

Abstract

The article states that economic violence is one of the types of domestic violence, which is caused by the economic situation in the country, norms and society’s attitude to violence. It is noted that for a long time domestic violence was considered intra-family, private, however, today this problem is no longer taboo and is considered at the level of society and the state. At the same time, attention is focused on the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) and the Law of Ukraine «On Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence» adopted in 2017. The signs of economic violence against the children of the family were studied and its consequences were revealed, including the deterioration of the psychological state of the individual; isolation due to financial constraints and the inability to escape the cycle of violence; shyness because of old clothes, etc. In the course of the conducted research on the current state of economic violence against children in the family, it was established that by economic violence schoolchildren understand the limitation of children in pocket money, in funds in general; limitation of stationery necessary for training; intentional deprivation of housing, food, clothing, other property, documents or the ability to use them, etc. More than half of the children (54.2%) noted that they had not experienced this type of violence, however, 25.2% respondents emphasized the lack of pocket money, 20.8% noted that sometimes their parents kicked them out of the house for disobedience, did not buy necessary things, deliberately deprived them of housing, food, clothes, funds, and documents, and this indicates that the problem we have identified exists. Pupils do not know who to turn to if they feel violence against them. Separate requirements for targeted social prevention of this type of violence and determination of ways that would minimize the causes of occurrence and prevention of economic violence against children in the family.
