PREVENTIVE PROGRAMMES AS A MEANS OF SEXUAL EDUCATION FOR ADOLESCENTS IN CONDITIONS OF MARTIAL LAW

This article is devoted to the problems of sex education and prevention of risky sexual behavior among adolescents in wartime. Constant exposure to war-related threats reduces people’s sensitivity to the risks associated with sex life. Due to their age, adolescents are one of the most vulnerable groups in this regard. Quality sex education becomes less accessible in a state of martial law, but prevention programs can fulfill its functions. The purpose of this study is to analyze the ability of a prevention program to fulfill the task of sex education for adolescents in a state of martial law in Ukraine. The article presents the results of an evaluation of the comprehensive prevention program “Steps Through Life” in terms of its ability to fulfill the functions of sex education for adolescents. The study analyzed the content of the program in terms of its coverage of various components of sex education and evaluated the results of its implementation in general secondary education institutions in different regions of Ukraine during the war. It is shown that the program covers key topics of sex education, such as values, sexual development and reproductive health, risky and safe sexual behavior, relationships in the sexual sphere, gender stereotypes, love and responsibility, and decision-making. Based on the analysis of data evaluating the implementation of the program in general education institutions during martial law, its high potential for fulfilling the main tasks of sex education for adolescents has been confirmed – forming correct ideas about sex life and relationships, understanding risks and the ability to counteract them, and readiness for safe sexual behavior. It has been established that the main target group of the program should be students in grades 10–11.
