Homelessness is a global social problem that deepens inequality and marginalization, creating barriers to stability and integration. The United States represents a striking example, where the scale of homelessness has reached unprecedented levels in recent years. In this context, nonprofit organizations play a decisive role in providing social support and developing sustainable solutions. This article examines the role of nonprofit organizations that implement community - based and charitable initiatives to address homelessness in the U.S., focusing on three representative structures: the National Alliance to End Homelessness, HomeFirst Services of Santa Clara County, and the Coalition for the Homeless in New York City. Each of these organizations operates at a different level – national, local, and municipal yet together they form a multilevel system of assistance. Their activities encompass a wide range of services: from direct support such as food distribution, shelter provision, crisis intervention, housing programs, job training, and youth initiatives, to advocacy, policy development, and community mobilization. The analysis demonstrates that nonprofit organizations not only meet urgent needs but also influence public policy, promote evidence-based solutions, and foster social solidarity. The findings suggest that American practices represent a valuable resource for other countries, showing that coordinated efforts of nonprofit organizations can reduce homelessness, support reintegration, and strengthen social cohesion. Future research may focus on comparative analysis of nonprofit models across different countries, exploration of the role of volunteering in reducing homelessness, and assessment of the potential for adapting American practices to the Ukrainian context.
