OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN THE CONDITIONS OF THE REHABILITATION INSTITUTION

Abstract

In the article, the authors consider the process of occupational therapy of persons with disabilities in rehabilitation institutions. Occupational therapy – a set of rehabilitation measures for a person with impaired mental or physical functions of the body, aimed at restoring normal activities, taking into account physical limitations (Wikipedia). The modern concept of occupational therapy includes a set of approaches aimed at improving the daily physical functions of persons with disabilities and creating comfortable living conditions, adapting the environment for people with disabilities, creating opportunities for integrating their professional skills and ensuring social adaptation. The full life of the vast majority of clients of rehabilitation institutions is impossible without providing them with various types of assistance and services that meet their social needs, including in the field of rehabilitation and social services aimed at organizing an active life in society. Timely satisfaction of individual needs of persons with disabilities is designed to provide compensation for existing limitations of life and requires finding the most effective ways and means of solving problems in the conditions of stay in rehabilitation institutions. One of the ways to improve the quality of social services in a rehabilitation institution is the introduction of occupational therapy. Occupational therapy allows adapting a person with a disability to changes in conditions in personal and public life, which occur due to age restrictions, illness, disability, etc. The result of the introduction of occupational therapy will be the involvement of persons with disabilities in rehabilitation institutions for self-realization and self-care, initiating their social activity without violating human rights, the introduction of new forms and methods of social services.
