Today there is a need to review the approaches to the training of qualified professionals at institutions of higher education. The question of students' independence when learning a foreign language and their responsibility for the results of their learning is of particular importance. Independent work is an important factor in optimizing the process of learning the language and its effectiveness significantly depends on the rational use of the students' powers. Strategies for studying the subject will help future specialists to become more self-disciplined, will contribute to increased engagement in learning, self-esteem, and self-correction. The aim of the article is to study the potential of modern technology as an effective tool for intensifying the organization of students' independent work in learning a foreign language. It is suggested that the introduction of independent work based on information and communication technologies should provide the technological integration of classroom and extracurricular work, which ensures the conditions for providing a continuous educational process. By increasing students’ cognitive activity, motivation and quality of knowledge, modern information and communication technology is one of the most promising technologies used for teaching and is able to intensify learning activities. Among modern information technologies, mobile technologies have a special potential for intensifying independent work. They are able to provide a high informative volume of material and continuity of learning, contribute to the stimulation of students' cognitive activity, and increase motivation. The importance of using mobile technologies in the process of teaching a foreign language to students in order to increase the quality level of lexical competence is substantiated. It is shown that mobile learning as an innovative trend of e-learning has a significant advantage over the traditional methods of learning due to intensification of independent activities, individualization of teaching, enhancement of cognitive activity and learning motivation.
