Johann Sebastian Bach's piano pieces are one of the iconic masterpieces of world culture, which by the number of individual interpretations, legends associated with them, and later transcriptions and imitations confidently occupy the top of the musical Olympus. The aim of the article is to find out the problems and peculiarities of editing samples of interpretations of piano pieces, numerous editions, immense research literature on the works of Johann Sebastian Bach. Scientific novelty. The main problems are defined and the innovative tendencies of the editing of piano pieces in the work of J.S. Bach are highlighted. As a conclusion, the article emphasizes that J.S. Bach's piano music occupies one of the leading places in performing arts. The 48 preludes and fugues of "The Well-Tempered Clavier" are a school of polyphonic composer performance. The comparative analysis of editions systematizes the methodological basis for identifying the most accurate correlation between the author's idea and the executive solution to the problems of creating a musical image.
