PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL COMMUNICATION BETWEEN A DENTIST AND A PATIENT

Abstract

The article presents a detailed analysis of the elective discipline «Professional Medical Communication between a Doctor and a Patient». The curriculum for the discipline is prepared for foreign students studying at the I. Horbachevsky Ternopil National Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine: Field of Knowledge I «Health and Social Welfare», Specialty I1 «Dentistry», Second (Master’s) Level of Higher Education, Training Program: Dentistry. Professional Medical Communication between a Doctor and a Patient» is taught to the second-year students. In dentistry, communication is not just about passing on information, but about creating an atmosphere in which the patient feels understood, respected, and involved in their treatment. When patients have clear, open lines of communication with their dentist, it can significantly improve their comfort, compliance, and long-term oral health. It is an integral part of delivering high quality, patient-centered care. It is important for foreign students to learn vocabulary and master communication skills while communicating with patients. The proposed tasks will contribute to the quality training of future doctors. The following tasks are studied: 1) Write what is shown in the pictures. Use the words from the list. 2) Read the text. 3) Answer the questions according to the text. 4) Complete the sentences. 5) Match the word with the picture. 6) Write a dialogue between a dentist and a patient. Use the phrases from the sample. The purpose of studying the theme is: to form systematic knowledge and understanding of the conceptual foundations of the study of the professional Ukrainian language of a physician with the prospect of its further use in professional activities; to provide students with communication needs in the educational, professional and educational-scientific spheres; to form language competence, communication skills of future specialists; to achieve exemplary language skills of a medical professional when communicating with a patient; in-depth study of lexical and semantic potential, wordformation identity of medical terminology and organization of perfect medical education.
