PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF LANGUAGE AND SPEECH COMPETENCE DEVELOPMENT AMONG PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS OF THE NEW UKRAINIAN SCHOOL

Abstract

The paper notes that the issue of forming language competence of primary school students is now relevant in maintaining the requirements of the New Ukrainian School, the transition from the knowledge-based educational paradigm to the competencebased one. The paper covers language and speech concepts based on an analysis of lexicographical works, psychological and linguo-didactic sources. The external oral, external written and internal forms of speech have been described. The main psychological processes that are crucial to consider when developing the speech competence of the primary school students have been identified in the present paper. These are attention, imagination, thought, memory, perception and comprehension, properties of the psyche (emotions, feelings), as well as the linguistic sense of the individual, his/her expertise both in actual realm and cyber domain communication. The meaning attributed to the notion of linguistic flair as the ability to use linguistic means appropriate to the communicative situation based on perception and intuition has been clarified. The following types of attention have been distinguished: involuntary, voluntary, post-voluntary, and types of thought: in order of novelty and originality (reproductive and productive), by method and form of work (visual-active, eye-mindedness, verbal (abstract)). The following research methods were employed: theoretical: analysis and synthesis of psychological, pedagogical, linguistic and methodical literature on the study issue; analysis of regulatory documents of the New Ukrainian School, theoretical elaboration, classification and synthesis of scientific developments in the field of linguodidactics of language and literature education sector at the New Ukrainian School; empirical: direct and indirect observation over the educational process in the study of language literary education sector at the New Ukrainian School; conversations with teachers and students.
