Abstract

The article highlights the competence orientation of the lesson in order to make the development of speaking skills mandatory in Ukrainian language classes. It is advisable to connect the construction of a competence task in the Ukrainian language with the solution of those issues that arise in the student’s life and affect his behavior. Three key directions of work affecting the formation of the linguistic and literary competence of a primary school student have been identified. The first direction is the organization of work on the formation of listening skills – understanding oral speech. The second direction concerns the improvement of speaking skills. The third direction in the teaching of speech is manifested in the increased work on the development of reading skills. It is noted that this task is solved in classes not only of reading, but also of speech. It has been established that the teacher should plan classes on the Ukrainian language in such a way that in each lesson in-depth work on the development of the skills of listening and understanding Ukrainian speech, speaking and reading in Ukrainian is conducted. The quality of the lesson largely depends on how focused the teacher is on the development of speaking skills. The article states that the development of speech should not be postponed until separate lessons, but should be carried out constantly. The importance of the development of dialogic and monologue speech is indicated. Much attention is paid to such an important type of work as sample analysis. Analysis of the sample contributes to the successful development of the appropriate skill in students. The task of composing a statement independently, if it is prepared by previous work, requires little time in class and gives good educational results. It has been established that the Ukrainian language lesson is competently oriented only when the teacher provides special tasks for students to develop the skills of listening carefully and understanding oral speech, speaking, reading and expressing themselves in writing. In order to implement this important requirement, the teacher must first of all realize its significance and obligation, show readiness to overcome established stereotypes, and look for new ways of organizing work. And this is very important in the period of changes that are being implemented in connection with the «New Ukrainian School» reform.
