MOTIVES OF INFORMATION ACTIVITY OF A MODERN INDIVIDUAL

Abstract

The relevance of the topic of the publication and its timeliness and practical significance, an analysis of scientific works on the topic of research were carried out in the article substantiates. Its goal is to update the definition and content of the motives (motivations) of a modern individual for information activities. In accordance with the purpose, the motive was defined as an effective incentive of an individual to activity, which can take the form of a set of external or internal conditions and/or certain (material or ideal) objects (processes, phenomena, etc.) that encourage activity and determine its direction, the reason realized by the individual that determined the choice of certain actions. The set of motives constitutes motivation, which, like the motives for information activity themselves, is combined into two classes by source of origin: internal and external. Both of these classes are completely subjective and can be both positive and negative, and assignment to a particular class is also largely subjective. The most relevant motives for the information activity of a modern individual include: 1) satisfaction of curiosity, natural curiosity, desire for independence and autonomy, desire for social interaction, need for success, sense of duty and responsibility, etc. – tha is, motives (namely, internal motives), which have mainly psychological and philosophical content and relate to the satisfaction of the mental, psychological and worldview (moral and ethical) needs of the individual by means of information activity; and 2) financial rewards, work bonuses, competitions and competition, factors that provoke anxiety and a sense of danger, condemnation and punishment, duties and responsibility etc. – that is, motives (namely, external motives), which usually have a social, communicative and material focus, and arise from the demand to satisfy information needs produced by the environment. Since both extrinsic and intrinsic motives have their advantages and disadvantages, for effective information activities they must be combined, as well as ensuring the implementation of a number of conditions (effectiveness of activities, the presence of its adequate assessment, awareness of the importance of the activity by the individual, etc.). The study of motivation for information activities of future and practicing primary school teachers and the development of a system of its practical support at a high level should be included among the promising areas of scientific research.
